My Town: Courtney Warren celebrates special moments all the livelong day

It's not much of a stretch that Courtney Warren would go about celebrating people and relationships while at work every day. But a creative business was never in the cards.

The Baylor social-work grad was working as an adoption counselor when she started creating party invites for clients as part of her role there.

"It was the most exciting part of my day to design an invite for an event. People kept asking me to make cards for them. It kind of just clicked: This is what I really love."Warren started filling orders for friends and colleagues. And although they were pleasantly surprised by her creative bent, Warren had known since childhood about her flair for fun.

"I would get a box and make a dollhouse out of it and cut out magazine furniture or curtains," says Warren, 31. "One of the things working as a social worker, I really missed that ... not having a creative outlet."

So she took her card business full time, launching Come Together Cards in 2005. She says the name is a reflection of how taking time to be thoughtful brings people together in a world that leaves little time for sharing meaningful moments. E-mails, Facebook and online cards have made relationships less personal, she says. "I think there's a place for that because we are busy. But if you want something a little more special, you want to go back to something more thoughtful. I think it goes so much further if you put a stamp on something and send it in the mail."

These days, Warren – dubbed the Cute Card Queen – takes time out for her own personal life, spending time with her 4-year-old son while juggling her card business and two days a week as director of development at the Pregnancy Resource Center.

Her cards, along with personalized party favors, notepads, holiday items and more, are sold online at ComeTogetherCards .com. Most of her business, she says, is by word of mouth.

Local girl Courtney Warren went from social worker to designer when she launched Come Together Cards, her line of original greeting cards, note cards, invitations, and more. Courtney’s paper creations are colorful and whimsical and can be personalized with your name or event. For an extra fee (starting at $15), she’ll even do custom artwork.

We told you Tuesday about local designer Courtney Warren’s Come Together Cards. Well, Courtney just informed us that her cards don’t just look good. They do good, too. In an effort to raise money for kids in South Africa who have been orphaned by AIDS, Courtney is donating $2 from the sale of each set of 10 note cards like the ones pictured here. Sets are $14.

In an article entitled, "Party Perfect", Dallas Child Magazine talks about great party planning for kid's birthday parties, and has some great ideas for some creative twists on ordinary children's birthday parties! They refer to Come Together Cards as "original hand-drawn or novel photo greeting cards...with bright, whimsical cartoon characters to depict your family".

As you might imagine, we scroll through hundreds of parenting product ideas each week, and I'm not going to say we are jaded, but we are picky! Recently, a Rockwall mom sent something that caught my eye: original hand drawn greeting cards and labels with a twist. The self-described "Cute Card Queen," Courtney designs each card with colorful, whimsical cartoon characters to depict your family. I especially like her mommy business cards and her "send a card" service where you simply pick out a greeting and let Courtney jot a handwritten note and mail it for you! Plus, how could we not love a fellow mom (to a 1-year-old little boy) who confesses to being addicted to Cherry Coke Zero and LOST!
on to be thinking about holiday cards & labels)!

From 5 Minutes for Mom...

There’s still something extra-special about receiving a real card in the mail. Having some cute personalized notecards has given me extra incentive to act on those urges. Courtney at Come Together Cards made these cute personalized cards just for me. I sent her a picture of my family, and this is what she came up with.

What’s great about this mom-owned company is that she really wants her cards to make a difference in people’s relationships. On her site she says, “Come Together Cards thinks there is a richness in slowing down to communicate love to friends. Whether it is a card to encourage someone through a bad day, share a laugh or memory, or invite someone to be a part of a very special occasion, life is meant to be shared with those we cherish.”
In addition to customized note cards, Courtney offers family notepads, mom business cards, and so much more. Check out all of her new products.
I think that she did a great job! I love mine and I think that one of you will too.

On the Dot Creations highlighted the Graduation Thank You notes...

It's so wonderful to receive graduation gifts, but then there's the often-dreaded task of writing thank-you notes.  Courtney at Come Together Cards has the perfect solution to make the task more bearable (and even fun!).  These cards come in a set of 10 (with envelopes), and Courtney will customize these cards to match the sender:  name, hair color, and school color.  How cool is that??
